What to do when you’re under fire

What to do when you’re under fire

If you’re ready to claim your greatness, you’ll need to make peace with criticism. Because it’s coming. It’s the price of admission for being bold and powerful. Here’s my simple, surefire way of handling criticism that comes my way. It takes practice, but it works. Don’t over-think, overanalyze or over-complicate it. Developing a thick skin takes time. In the beginning, criticism will hurt like hell. But if you always come back to what’s true, you can let the stuff that isn’t relevant or helpful go. We are conditioned to please others from an early age. But doing so is a recipe for playing small and withholding our magnificence. So, move on – and let yourself SHINE.  p.s. need more help navigating criticism, doubt and fear? Don’t go to the hardware store for milk

Don’t go to the hardware store for milk

Not everyone gets it. Not everyone in your life understands the journey you’re on or the passion that fuels it. They question. They minimize. They suggest. They imply. They doubt. It can be incredibly disappointing and disheartening to realize that the people we most want support from, are often the exact people that just can’t give it to us. Three things are usually going on – sometimes separately, but often together. :: Concern for your well-being. Will you have enough money? What if it doesn’t work? How will you pay your mortgage? Can you get another job if you need to? This comes from a place of concern and worry. The way that gets communicated doesn’t always reflect it, but the intention is about your safety and security. Recognize this for what it is – love. :: Breaking societal norms + the script they had for you. While hundreds of new entrepreneurs pop up weekly, it’s still the exception to the rule. Most people will work a job, or multiple jobs until they retire. This is the safe, comforting path to take – nobody questions it. Until you do – and then you’re looked at like you have three heads. How could you not want this? Why would you want to risk it all for a lifetime of uncertainty? But you were just starting to get ahead??? This has very little to do with you, and everything to do with their own beliefs and expectations around life and the pursuit of work. The vast majority of people do not question the status quo or believe that another path is...
The question you should be asking

The question you should be asking

Every entrepreneur wants to unlock the answer to this ONE key question: “Why should I buy from you over all the other choices out there?” But there’s an equally, if not much more important question to answer that most business owners overlook: “Why should I buy from you instead of doing nothing at all?” The truth is, most people are terrified of change. Of doing something different. Stepping outside their comfort zones. Committing to a process. Taking responsibility for the current results in their life. And so most people do nothing.  They might complain or whine a bit, and dip their toes into the waters of transformation. But very few dive headfirst into the deep end – ready to do the work that comes with any sort of personal or business change. So as marketers (which all business owners are), your job is to understand what’s preventing them from making any change at all. And to remind them of the cost of staying exactly where they are. To hold up what’s possible for them if they decide to go all in. Because more often than not, the people that most need what you have to offer aren’t shopping your competitors. They just aren’t shopping at all.  p.s. one of my signature programs is getting a makeover for the Fall. You are enough. Right now.

You are enough. Right now.

You are enough. Right now. You don’t need more knowledge. You don’t need more degrees. You don’t need more expertise or credentials or letters after your name. You don’t need to be an A-lister or a B-lister. You don’t need to have 10,000 Twitter Followers or 1,000 Likes on Facebook. What you need is to believe that you matter. That you bring value to your right people. You need to believe in the core of your being that you’ve got something special to bring to the world – even just your corner of it. It’s not ok to continue to tell yourself you’re not enough. And it’s not ok to minimize your strengths, undervalue your offerings and sabotage your success. It’s not ok to hide out – to play small – to be anything less than the amazing person you are. Every moment you spend giving power to the voices in your head that tell you you’re just not enough, are moments you are throwing away. These moments could be spent coming up with a lucrative new revenue stream, helping your ideal client achieve a breakthrough, taking a bubble bath to relax, or spending time with your loved ones. Don’t waste so many moments convincing yourself that you’re not enough. It’s a choice my friends. Those beliefs penetrate your psyche because you ALLOW them to. All that doubt, worry, fear, sabotage and anxiety never has and never will do anything help you realize your dreams. They will simply keep you from it – pulling you back every time you make progress. Enough is enough. It’s time. Make a new...

Overcoming Fear – How to Gain New Joint Venture Partners, Guest Blog Posts, and more!

*This is a guest post from Cheryl Woodhouse* Your palms are sweating. Your heart is racing. You can’t think straight, let alone type an email or pick up the phone. You have been procrastinating for hours, days, weeks, or even months. You know that this potential partner could mean big things for your business, but you’re stopped – dead in your tracks. The “what ifs” begin to take over. “What if they don’t like me?” “What if they don’t respond?” “What if they think I’m rude?” “What if??” This probably sounds pretty familiar to you. In the business world, especially today, success is built upon connection. But reaching out and making those connections can be intimidating, and scary – like staring into a sea of potential pitfalls. You’re paralyzed by the fear of failure, fear of success, or fear of rejection. The first thing I want you to know is that what you are feeling is okay. Everyone who has ever reached out to another business owner has been through the same feelings and thought processes, and they have all lived to tell the tale. Do not let it stop you! It is also important for you to know that you can move beyond these fears. The scariest things about approaching a potential joint venture partner, blogger, or authority are often rooted in limiting beliefs that we hold about ourselves and the world of business. Take a look through some of these common thought patterns, and see if any of these resonate with you… “I am too small to get a joint venture with ______.” “______ will be too...

Speaking Artistry :: How to Tap Yours to Grow Your Business Fast (& Change the World Along the Way)

*This is a guest post by Michelle Barry Franco.  Have you ever been watching someone speak and felt your heart flutter and your body tingle? Have you ever thought to yourself, “Holy Moly – this is it. This is what I’ve been waiting to hear. This is what it’s all about.” You feel yourself energized, motivated… in fact, you might even get up to take some action if you didn’t want so desperately to hear what else this person was going to say. Here’s where it gets really fascinating. You’ve actually heard this message before, maybe pretty much the same words spoken. Yes, the stories are different and the venue is not the same, but this message isn’t new. Why is it so transformative this time? Why, suddenly, is everything shifting for you in this one moment as one person in an audience of dozens, or hundreds… or thousands? I can tell you why. It’s because you are experiencing soul-bearing, courageous speaking. This kind of speaking requires that the speaker actually dig deep into her own big voice, the courageous one that reveals even more of herself than she knew she had in her. This kind of speaking taps rivers of knowing in both the speaker and the listener and the conversation happens on a plane that we can’t manufacture with tips, suggestions and formulas. This kind of soulful, rich speaking is an art – and you, as the speaker, are the born artist. You have the style brushes inside you, waiting to be uncovered and brought out to the canvas. You just need the excavation method to dig...
