If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know the importance I put on finding your right person.

I talk about it so much because it’s gotta be one of the most important pieces you can possibly figure out in your business. And it’s the one that trips people up the most (or they just neglect to do it).

You can call it whatever you want: your right person, your ideal customer/client, your customer avatar. Whatever. Doesn’t matter what you call it – it just matters that you figure it out. Now. Like right now. 😉

You have to understand exactly who you’re speaking to and who you’re not. The clearer you are on this person, the easier everything becomes. Imagine how much easier it is to tell your business story (a.k.a. marketing) when you know exactly who’s listening, right? Then you can tweak, revise, tailor etc. to speak their language, instead of shooting in the dark hoping your message lands (it won’t, trust me).

And yes – this means that you are narrowing down your focus. And yes, it also means that you’re essentially turning some people away. This, my dear readers, is a GOOD thing.

Because the tighter your message and the more focused it is on your right people, the louder and clearer they can hear it. When you’re speaking to everyone (for fear of losing a possible client, or pissing someone off, or just not knowing who you’re speaking to) you dilute your message and your right people – those people that are EXACTLY who you are meant to work with, can’t hear you. And that’s a tragedy.

But I’m going to take a bold stand and tell you exactly who MY right person is. Maybe you’ll see yourself in her and maybe you won’t. If you do, stick around. If you don’t (or you don’t know yet), then you can either hang on for the ride and see if we mesh, or you can find someone better suited to you. All relationships come down to the fit – and there’s no point staying in a relationship (even if it’s just over a blog) that doesn’t serve you.

MY RIGHT PERSON – IS IT YOU?

When I work with this person, I am happiest. I am at my best. I thrive. And that means nothing but good things all around.

    • You are an action taker. You are not content to simply sit on the fence hoping for success. You might be scared (that’s ok!) but you’re willing to get your hands dirty and take bold, unapologetic, inspired action.
    • You’re positive. You have a sense of humour and you’re easy to talk to. No big gaps in conversation because you like to talk (we’ll get along famously).
    • You take your business seriously, but not TOO seriously. Meaning – this isn’t a hobby for you, and you’re 100% committed, but you want to have fun while you do it.
    • You’re media savvy. You’re not a tech expert by any stretch, but you like to navigate the vastness of the online world and are excited about bringing your business (or a piece of it) online.
    • You think about your business a lot. Like maybe too much. And it’s because you can’t not (is that a double negative? well, you know what I mean!). It consumes you and you’re always thinking about how you could grow it or make it better. Or about your next big idea.
    • Speaking of ideas – you have a lot of them. Your problem isn’t so much coming UP with ideas as it is honing in on which idea is best for right now (LOVE helping with this stuff!)
    • You get that to be successful in business, you need to invest in it (and yourself) and you don’t shy away from paying for help and expert advice when required.
    • You probably have a service based business. You can certainly have products too, but you aren’t likely a bricks & mortar business.
    • You’re tired of playing small. You know deep down in your core that you have a big message to share, and it’s time to share it.
    • You’re willing to put yourself out there and take a few risks. I’m a go-big or go-home kinda girl, so my right person generally is too.
    • You thrive with straight-up, honest, direct feedback and advice given with love. This is my winning combo – I’ll give it to you straight (saving you time & money) without any hint of judgment or attitude.
    • You want (or rather, crave) a business that reflects the very best of you. You aren’t in business just for the money (yes, that IS part of it though). You’re in business because you have to – because you have so much to give and because you know that if you could show up 100% as you – you’d knock it out of the park.
    • You are inspired by many things. Maybe it’s a great new book. Maybe music. Maybe it’s a great blog you love to read. But you are a student of life and constantly gather information and inspiration as you go through each day.

That, my dear readers, is my right person. Is it you?

If it is you, please comment below and tell me more about you so we can get to know one another.
