30 Powerful Ways to Spring Clean Your Business (Part 1)

Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring? ~ Neltje Blanchan Today I’ve got something fun and hopefully useful for you, as we dive right into these beautiful spring months. Over the next six episodes, I’m going to give you 30 powerful ways to spring clean your business. Spring, or fall for our southern hemisphere readers, is a great time of year to do a little pruning, clear the cobwebs and get your business organized and running efficiently. Whether we’re just coming off a long, cold winter or a slow summer, this time of year tends to inspire action and movement. Maximize this energy by tending to areas of your business you might have ignored for far too long. So in the spirit of you taking action each week instead of just having a long list, you read once and then move on from, we’re going to break this up into a 6-part series based on my CEO Fast Track Guide. This guide addresses one of the biggest challenges any CEO faces – how to find time for the work that matters most and how to discern what the work is in the first place. Because I want your spring cleaning to be strategic and impactful. While updating your Twitter bio might need to be done as part of this, my goal with this series is to dive a little deeper to address some core business activities you need to put your time and attention to for longer term growth and sustainability. In today’s episode, we’re going to look at the first CEO Discipline: Strategic Planning...
Sprint through the next quarter with ease

Sprint through the next quarter with ease

“Spending time on secondary priorities is the reason you have 20 half-finished projects instead of 5 completed ones.” ~James Clear Can you believe that spring is officially here, and quarter two of 2017 is already here? I don’t know about you, but these past weeks have flown by. Now, I don’t want to spend a bunch of time hashing over the past three months, asking you if you’ve stayed on track with the goals and plans you laid out at the beginning of the year. If I were a betting woman, I’d guess that you’ve made progress on some plans but others have stayed in pause mode because of lack of time, clarity or resources to take action. Am I right? Regardless, I want to use today’s episode to kick start that fire in your belly and help you get ready to make the most of quarter two. Because while quarter one is already over, quarter two is still ahead of you beckoning you to make the most of it. I wanted to share one of the best ways I know of it get back in the swing of things and set a path for progress. And that’s working in 90-day increments, with a mix of longer-term work and more specifically, short sprints. What you need to get about decision fatigue

What you need to get about decision fatigue

“When things aren’t adding up in your life, start subtracting.” ~Anonymous Think about it for a minute. How many decisions do you make every single day? I bet it’s in the hundreds. We live in a society that pulls at us from every direction. We often feel pressured to perform to a certain standard (you know you succumb once in while at least!). Whether it’s the Martha Stewart birthday party or the tough decisions an entrepreneur is faced with on a regular basis, it doesn’t really ever end. In those crazy moments, when the sense of overwhelm strikes and we’re forced into another decision – big or small – how can we trust the quality of those decisions? What can we do to eliminate decision-making so that our stress can be reduced and peace of mind improved? In today’s podcast, we will review what causes our stress to elevate, what it is that we ourselves contribute to the cycle, and some strategies to implement to improve your quality of life, reduce triggers and find opportunities to do better and therefore, be better. We have a tendency to complicate things and it just doesn’t always have to be that way. It’s the simple things sometimes that send us over the edge. Join me so we can tackle the exhaustion factor involved and discover how to stay ahead of the decision making fatigue syndrome.               Can’t seem to get a handle on things? Decision fatigue might be the culprit. Click To Tweet Think you need more willpower? Try this instead. Click To Tweet Poor choices come...
Be Choosey. Really Damn Choosey.

Be Choosey. Really Damn Choosey.

Overwhelm isn’t created by what you think it is. It’s not because of having too much on your plate. It’s not because you have a burgeoning to-do list that keeps growing. And it’s not because you’re trying to balance kids, family, laundry, writing, clients and more. These are all the manifestations of overwhelm — but not the root cause. And as long as you focus on the to-do list or the laundry pile, you’re going to stay stuck in the overwhelm indefinitely. The root cause is that you’re not choosey* enough.   Overwhelm is the result of not being choosey enough. Click To Tweet Full Transcript: Overwhelm isn’t created by what you think it is. Every day we make choices about where we decide to allocate our time and effort. Sometimes we make these choices deliberately, and even with enthusiasm. But more often than not, we make these choices by default (meaning, the choice gets made for us because we don’t actually make it ourselves), in support of someone else’s agenda or begrudgingly because we think we ‘have’ to. It’s time to be choosey. Really damn choosey....
How to read more and better in 2017

How to read more and better in 2017

Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light. —Vera Nazarian Today’s episode is near and dear to my heart. I’ve been an active reader my entire life, minus a not-so-brief period when my kids were really young. My mom was a former teacher so books were always around. My husband’s father and step-mother are both retired librarians. Books have played a key role in who I’ve become. But over the years, as my available time to read diminished, I found it necessary to develop a more intentional reading practice. In 2017, I’ve set a goal to read 52 books. This is an ambitious goal for me given the demands on my time, but with a few key lifestyle changes (e.g. not watching TV until bedtime), I can make it happen. Listen to today’s episode to learn how you can read more and better this year.       Want to read more and better in 2017?
