My recent post about the Curse of the CopyCat Brand generated a bit of buzz around these parts.
A whole shwack of people came out of the woodwork to tell me (mostly behind closed doors) that they had been copied online and had anything from a sentence or two, to literally entire web pages copied exactly. Incredible.
And others fessed up and admitted that at one time or another, they too had fallen into comparison mode and swiped bits and pieces of their mentors and business idols stuff.
The truth is – we’ve all done it. It’s the nature of the medium. We have access to info (including our peers and competitors) 24/7. And the reality is, there are just SO many different ways to say something.
It’s bound to happen.
But what prompted the post was a recognition that this digital copycatting as I’ve started calling it, was on the rise. That people were forgoing their own creative thoughts and ideas for someone else’s ‘tested’ approach.
That scares me on a number of levels.
So I want to continue to conversation.
Not to point fingers and pass out blame.
But instead to just have a genuine conversation about branding, modeling, and how to create a brand that rises above the me-too’ness prevalent online.
So please join me for a free webinar: The Cure for the CopyCat Brand on Wednesday, November 9th at 11am MST / 1pm EST.
