In my neck of the woods, summer is officially here.

It’s been hot for days (after a very long winter and wet spring) so I’m enjoying the heat. We’ve got a water park right down the street that my kids love to cool off in. Glorious!

But with summer’s arrival, complete with patios, BBQs, cold beer, iced tea and late night get-togethers, it’s easy for business to take a back seat until fall.

And while I’m a big advocate of taking a break (we entrepreneurs don’t take enough of them), you probably don’t want your business to slip into neutral or even reverse because you’re catching some zzz’s under a tree.

In fact, this time of the year (my apologies to friends on the other side of the world that are in winter-mode), can be an excellent time to knock off some of those to-do’s that never get done. These can include:

  • Set up some systems and structures to get your business moving more efficiently
  • Hire a virtual assistant to manage a lot of your busy-work (and be sure to hand as much as you can over!)
  • Conduct a thorough Brand Audit to see if your online & offline presence needs a good tweak, re-jig or maybe even a do-over. (Need help here? I offer complete Brand Audits)
  • Take a few hours to go into creative-mode for some new packages and programs you could offer
  • Identify at least 3-5 people that you want to start building relationships with. They could be possible joint venture partners, referral partners, business colleagues or collaborators.
  • Hire a coach or join a program with some direct support/accountability. Summer is a great time to really get clear about where you want to take your business and what you need to do to get it there.

Here’s the reality – we’ve got just under six months left until the start of the New Year. That means, you can still make some SERIOUS progress before 2012. I set some pretty ambitious goals for myself this year, and have already reached several biggies.

Are you ready to give this summer everything you’ve got?

Let me know in the comments what you commit to doing this summer and I’ll do my best to support you.
